For many children, back-to-school is a time of excitement. It marks the start of a new year, new classroom and new friends. Unfortunately, the lives of children growing up in low-income households are often very different from those of their more affluent peers. Back-to-school shopping isn’t an exciting time of new clothes and school supplies. In fact, they often face the uncertainty of starting the school year with very little. Knowing how important education is, we strive to ensure that the children of Dignity are prepared.
On September 8th, Dignity Housing held our annual “Back-To-School Night.” With smiles and joyous laughs, the children picked new book bags unique to their personalities. Each was filled with supplies for the upcoming year, such as crayons, notebooks, and colorful folders. It was a wonderful event!
Thanks to our loyal supporters, including Amazing Child Abundant Hope, Rubye’s Kids, and a group of friends who have donated to this event for TEN YEARS, the children of Dignity are starting the school year with a sense of confidence and reassurance. Also, thanks to special gift bags donated by Neiman Marcus, the moms of Dignity are getting a little extra pampering too.
Although the children are “geared up” for the new year, Dignity’s After School Enrichment Program is still in need of supplies. Click here to view our Amazon Wishlist for a detailed list of items needed!!! Your support is deeply appreciated!
