October 2012: Fattah, Bass to cut ribbon at new homeless-resource center in Germantown
On Tuesday, U.S. Rep. Chaka Fattah and Eighth District City Councilwoman Cindy Bass will join the residents and staff of Dignity Housing’s Resource and Opportunity Center for a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The 10 a.m. event will mark the opening of the center at 5151 Wayne Ave.
According to a press release from his office, Fattah “secured $190,000 through the Economic Development Initiative of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for the Resource and Opportunity Center.”
That money will be used to renovate living space and bring “computer technology access” to the center.
“Tackling homelessness means providing decent housing and … a mix of social services and support to help low-income families and individuals break the cycle of poverty,” Fattah said in the release which noted Dignity Housing has offered “25 years of outstanding service to homeless families and individuals.”
Fattah faces Robert Allen Mansfield and James Foster, a Republican and independent respectively, in his bid for re-election next month.
